Editorial principles

El Semanal de Madrid follows the principles of professional journalism: accuracy, independence, plurality and responsibility, in the public interest of those who live in Madrid and its region.

Independence

We keep a clear separation between news and opinion, and between editorial and commercial content. No political, institutional or commercial pressure shapes our editorial decisions. Being a regular source does not earn anyone favourable treatment.

Verification and sources

We check facts before publishing and cite sources wherever possible. We clearly distinguish verified facts from hypotheses and opinion. Where information comes from a single unverified source, we say so in the text.

Crime, victims and minors

In crime reporting we respect the presumption of innocence and avoid identifying people arrested or under investigation unless there is a clear public interest. We do not publish details that could identify victims of crime, particularly sexual or gender violence, or minors.

Conflicts of interest

Anyone involved in producing a piece must have no financial, personal or political interest in the matter. Any relevant connection is disclosed in the article itself.

Advertising and branded content

All paid content is visibly labelled as advertising or branded content and produced outside the newsroom. We do not accept commercial links inside news articles.

Transparency about artificial intelligence

We produce our texts with the support of AI tools, from public sources and under human editorial supervision before publication. AI does not decide what is news and does not replace fact checking. AI generated images are illustrative and are distinguished from real photographs, which carry their credit.

Editorial bylines

Articles may be signed with newsroom pen names, a common practice in the sector. These names do not correspond to specific individuals. Editorial responsibility for everything published lies with the outlet.

Corrections

We own our mistakes and fix them under our corrections policy.
