The performing arts festival of the Las Vegas region celebrates its fourth edition on 10, 17, and 24 October at the 'José María García Luján, playwright' Aula Polivalente, which has been renovated this year. The programme combines classic comedy, courtroom drama, and local creation.
Ambite will host the fourth edition of AmbiTeatro, the Autumn Festival of Performing Arts of the Las Vegas region, over three consecutive Saturdays in October. The performances will take place on 10, 17, and 24 October at the 'José María García Luján, playwright' Aula Polivalente, a renovated space that the municipality named after the theatre director last August.
The opening will be led by the local group 'Ambite en Escena', which will present 'La vida privada de mamá', a comedy by Víctor Ruiz Iriarte. The play follows Teresa, a widow seemingly devoted entirely to her family, whose image begins to crumble when, coinciding with her daughter's wedding, several men appear claiming to have received a marriage promise from her.
On the second Saturday, 17 October, it will be the turn of 'Otkatai', by AJ Audiovisual Teatro, written and directed by Antonio José López Gómez and inspired by texts from Anton Chekhov. The plot centres on Elena, a young widow determined to mourn for life, and her mother Stepana's attempts to find her a new husband. The candidate, a neighbour named Yuri, seems suitable until every encounter between them ends in a monumental argument.
The festival will close on 24 October with 'Doce almas sin piedad', by the company Tirinto. This is an adaptation of Reginald Rose's work set in contemporary Spain, where twelve jury members must decide whether a young man accused of murder is guilty or innocent. The performance will hold special significance for Ambite: its director, José María García Luján, will close the festival by directing a play precisely in the space that bears his name.
The festival was born with the intention of making autumn a regular appointment with theatre
With this fourth edition, AmbiTeatro maintains a continuous theatrical programme in a town the size of Ambite, preventing residents from having to travel to larger municipalities or the capital to access this type of cultural offering. The festival combines local creation and invited companies, covering genres ranging from classic comedy to courtroom and psychological drama.
The three performances will take place at the 'José María García Luján, playwright' Aula Polivalente in Ambite on Saturdays 10, 17, and 24 October.
