The Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Solitude will take place in Colmenarejo on September 6, starting at 11:00 from the church. The programme begins on August 30 with the novena.
The town of Colmenarejo is finalising preparations for the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of Solitude, which will be celebrated on Sunday, September 6. The day will start at 11:00 with the procession leaving from the church to the Hermitage, with a welcome and regional dance in the Town Hall Square.
The festive programme will begin days earlier, with the novena at the Parish of Santiago Apostle, from August 30 to September 5 at 19:30. On Saturday, September 5, at 7:00, the Rosario de la Aurora will take place from the Hermitage to the church, with churros and chocolate served afterwards; at 20:00, a mass will be held and medals will be presented to the new members.
On Sunday, at 12:00, the arrival of the pilgrimage, the Flower Offering, and the Proclamation by Francisco Javier Entero Martín are scheduled. Half an hour later, at 12:30, the Brotherhood function and the Pilgrimage Mass will be officiated, and at 13:30 lemonade and picnic food will be served. The raffle, with prizes and recognitions, will be drawn at 16:00.
Throughout the day, popular music will play, and participants are encouraged to join with carts, horses, and regional costumes. There will be a single designated area for cooking, with electric and gas grills, and the use of charcoal fire is prohibited, as reminded by the Departments of Celebrations, Security, and Environment of the Colmenarejo Town Hall.
Emergency services will be located at the Hermitage. For any incidents, attendees can contact 112, Civil Protection at 618 565 724, or the Local Police at 670 799 393.
The Town Council requests respect for the environment and adherence to safety recommendations to ensure the event proceeds without incidents. The pilgrimage is one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Colmenarejo, in honour of its patroness, the Virgin of Solitude.
