On Saturday, August 29, Cercedilla celebrates the seventh edition of 'La Hora Blanca' at Colladito del Rey, with a popular march and an event at 12:00 to remember the Olympic skier.
The municipality of Cercedilla will once again pay tribute to Blanca Fernández Ochoa this Saturday, August 29, 2026, with the celebration of 'La Hora Blanca', an event that reaches its seventh edition coinciding with the anniversary of her passing. The gathering will bring together locals, athletes, and admirers of the Sierra de Guadarrama at Colladito del Rey, the site where the commemorative plaque in honour of the historic Olympic champion is located.
The central event will begin at 12:00 at that location, with a tribute that will recall her sporting career, her values of effort and perseverance, and the connection she maintained with the peaks of Cercedilla, where she lived and trained for much of her life.
To reach Colladito del Rey, the organisation has planned a group walk departing at 09:00 from Las Dehesas (Casa Cirilo). The Cercedilla Town Hall encourages participation in the walk and sharing the journey to the tribute site.
The invitation is open to all citizens. The organisers recommend wearing appropriate hiking footwear and clothing, sun protection, and bringing water, and remind everyone to respect the natural environment throughout the route.
Blanca Fernández Ochoa, born in Madrid and raised in Cercedilla, was the first Spanish woman to win an Olympic medal in alpine skiing, achieving bronze in the slalom at the Albertville 1992 Games. Her legacy remains very much alive in the town, which organises this event each year to keep her memory alive.
The day will conclude with a gathering at the summit, where attendees can share memories and pay tribute to the skier in one of the locations she frequented most.
