The Equality and Diversity Department of the Coslada City Council has organised the exhibition “20 years of equal marriage. Yes, I still love you”, which will be open from September 1 to October 2 at CIDAM. The exhibition, provided by the Ministry of Equality, commemorates the twentieth anniversary of the approval of same-sex marriage in Spain.
The exhibition reviews the history of the LGTBI+ movement in the country, from the underground and persecution during the dictatorship to the conquest of rights and the recognition of family diversity. One of the central moments is the approval in 2005 of equal marriage, which allowed same-sex couples to marry and adopt on equal terms.
The exhibition also addresses other key stages, such as the birth of LGTBI+ activism in the last years of Francoism, the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1979, the 1980s and the arrival of HIV, or the subsequent advances in the rights of trans people.
Entry is free and visiting hours are Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, and Fridays from 9:00 to 14:00. The department invites all citizens to visit CIDAM to learn about the journey taken by those who mobilised over the decades.
