The Luisa Carnés Library in Coslada is showcasing throughout October 'Clase calé', a project by Romani students from IES Miguel Catalán that analyses the relationship between the Caló language and Spanish. The exhibition is located in the ExpoLibro area of the centre.
The work is part of a Learning and Service project involving the institute, the Municipal APS Office, under the Youth Department, and the Library area, affiliated with the Culture Department. The aim is to bring the culture of the Romani people closer to other students and to give visibility to young Romani individuals in the municipality.
Diversity is always something positive and enriching, and we all deserve visibility and recognition
This was stated by the delegated councillor for Culture, Emi Escudero.
The exhibition reviews the origins of Caló terms that are used daily in Spanish, such as sobar, currar, or pinrel. The illustrations are by comic artist Guillermo Mogorrón and the exhibition is complemented by a selection of readings about the Romani people and culture.
The exhibition can be visited in the ExpoLibro area of the Luisa Carnés Library throughout the month of October.
