The Alcalá de Henares City Council and the Víctor Hernández Peña have awarded the Mexican bullfighter the prize for his victory in the 2026 Chenel Cup.

The Mexican bullfighter Héctor Gutiérrez received the World Heritage Trophy this Monday in Alcalá de Henares, an award given by the City Council and the Víctor Hernández Bullfighting Peña to the winner of the Chenel Cup of the Community of Madrid in its 2026 edition.

The event, held in the city council's plenary hall, was attended by the mayor, Judith Piquet, who presided over the ceremony, and the councillor for Festivals and Popular Traditions, Antonio Saldaña, who conducted the event. Also present were councillors Isabel Ruiz Maldonado, Antonio Peñalver, Esther de Andrés, and Víctor Cobo.

The Chenel Cup, organised by the Toro de Lidia Foundation and the Government of the Community of Madrid, is a series of bullfights held between spring and early summer in venues throughout the region, aimed at promoting young talents in bullfighting. This is the same goal pursued by the Alcalá trophy, which is now in its third edition.

During the event, Piquet congratulated the bullfighter on his victory, which she described as

the result of the dedication, ambition, and courage he is showing to try to make a name for himself in the bullfighting hierarchy and especially to become known in Spain
.

The mayor expressed her hope that this award would serve Gutiérrez

not only as recognition of the success achieved but also, and above all, as support and encouragement to continue growing as a bullfighter
.

She also thanked the Víctor Hernández Peña, and particularly its president, Julián Sánchez, for their involvement in an award that, in her words,

is nothing more than a testament to our support for bullfighting and all the traditions surrounding it
.

Alongside Sánchez were several members of the Peña, the banderillero Marcos Prieto, a member of Gutiérrez's team, and the president of the Antezana Foundation, Asensio Esteban, as well as bullfighting enthusiasts from the city.

The trophy presentation coincides with the imminent celebration of the Alcalá Bullfighting Fair, which begins this Friday, August 28. Piquet framed the recognition within the recovery of bullfighting festivities during the August Fair three years ago and emphasised the City Council's commitment to

a lively, open, and welcoming city that respects its customs and roots
