The Madrid artist Jorge Romero Mancebo presents his exhibition 'Pan con manteca' in Móstoles, a reflection on landscape, archive, and workshop space. It will be open from September 4 to October 18.
The Móstoles City Museum hosts the exhibition 'Pan con manteca' by artist Jorge Romero Mancebo from September 4 to October 18. The show, organised by the Móstoles City Council through the Department of Education and Culture, brings together a collection of works that explore the workshop space as a place for creating relationships and meanings.
The exhibition is structured around two main axes: on one hand, a reflection on the workshop itself as a generator of relationships and significations; on the other, the use and analysis of different plastic languages as enablers of artistic practice. Romero Mancebo (Madrid, 2001) presents his process as a search for meaning, an attempt to avoid the mundane and the anecdotal by questioning his own praxis.
In the first stage of the project, the artist analyses specific situations within the natural landscape, where he collects and gathers objects in urban or disused environments. His interest lies in how the circumstances of the environment have left their mark: the texture, the degradation of colour, or the deformations. These objects are then transferred to the workshop ecosystem, where a disarticulation and destabilisation of their significations occurs as they are placed in another context and exist within a collection that functions as a material archive.
Within the workshop, the process begins around the diorama: a small scenography where the contemplation, analysis, and arrangement of objects act as a triggering element. The artist seeks to produce relationships between objects and situations that are configured through hierarchies, rhythms, and repetitions. The creation of mystery through absence, chance, or deviation in perspective are driving elements in his work, generating a suspended and indeterminate atmosphere.
Romero Mancebo, born in Madrid in 2001, has held solo and group exhibitions in Spain and Italy. His work revolves around issues related to landscape and archive, and how these can be transferred and re-signified to generate new processes and relationships.
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00.
