The Primitiva Complutum Association, in collaboration with the Villalbilla Town Hall, has begun the fifth excavation campaign at the site of Cerro de San Juan del Viso. The work focuses on the access area to determine its possible pre-Roman origin.
The Primitiva Complutum Association, in collaboration with the Villalbilla Town Hall, has launched a new archaeological excavation campaign at Cerro de San Juan del Viso. This is the fifth research campaign at the site, aimed at deepening the understanding of the origins of this historic settlement.
The director of the excavations, Sandra Azcárraga, explains that this year's work focuses, for the second consecutive year, on the access area to the site, a space excavated in the rock. Researchers will try to determine whether this access has a pre-Roman origin and if there are remains of a possible defensive wall in the area.
To this end, the archaeological team is expanding one of the test pits conducted in the previous campaign and has opened a new test pit a few meters north of the first.
The Villalbilla Town Hall appreciates the work of the association and the team of professionals and volunteers participating in this campaign. Over the coming weeks, updates on progress and findings will be provided.
The Saturday, September 5 will see the traditional open day with a hiking route to the site. The route will depart at 9:30 AM from the Zulema medical centre, on Avenida de Madrid.
