The Town Hall of Garganta de los Montes has begun the construction of affordable rental housing for young people in El Cuadrón, after two years of procedures and a €500,000 grant from the Community of Madrid.
The construction of the youth housing in the El Cuadrón area of Garganta de los Montes started this week with the erection of the pillars. The project, financed with a €500,000 grant from the Community of Madrid, also includes a community space of about 300 square meters on the ground floor of the building.
The journey to the first stone has not been short. According to the Town Hall, the process has taken two years: first, a plot of land had to be found that someone was willing to sell, then the municipal administrative procedures had to be completed and the purchase interest announcement published. Finally, the council acquired the land for €90,000.
With the land in ownership, the government team drafted the project and submitted it to the Community of Madrid's grant call for the construction of youth housing. The favourable resolution arrived with a €500,000 aid, and after a public tender, the work was awarded to a construction company.

The Town Hall has apologised to residents for any inconvenience the construction may cause in the coming weeks. The initiative aims to provide affordable rental options for the town's youth and, according to the government team, to lay the foundations for the village to maintain life and opportunities.
The housing will be allocated to young people, although the requirements and application period have yet to be detailed. The project includes a community space of about 300 square meters on the ground floor, which will serve as a meeting place for the community.
