Getafe City Council, through the Municipal Land and Housing Company (EMSV), is progressing with the construction of 203 public rental homes on a plot opposite Carlos III University. The works began this summer and the draw for the homes will take place in the first quarter of 2027.
The construction of the new promotion of 203 public rental homes that the Getafe City Council is building through the Municipal Land and Housing Company (EMSV) is progressing well since it started this summer. The project is located on a plot opposite Carlos III University, at the intersection of Madrid Street and Ilustración Street.
The mayor of Getafe, Sara Hernández, has highlighted that these homes will offer first-class accommodation at a protected price. "These homes will allow our neighbours to enjoy first-class accommodation, with nothing to envy from the most demanding free market promotions, but at a protected and affordable price," she stated.
Hernández also emphasized the security that public rental provides against market pressures: "We want our children and neighbours to be able to stay living in Getafe without the monthly anxiety of not being able to afford their rent or the constant fear that a private landlord will demand they leave their home from one month to the next."
Our commitment is unwavering, this municipal asset will never be privatized," the mayor assured.
The plot was originally classified as private residential land and has been converted into land designated for public protection housing, funded by the budgetary efforts of Getafe City Council.
The new building will have a ground floor plus six floors and will be distributed into seven entrances with access from a spacious internal recreational area. It will house 179 two-bedroom homes of about 65 square meters usable on average and 24 three-bedroom homes of approximately 80 square meters usable. All include a parking space. The ground floor will feature two commercial premises.
The promotion will have energy rating A, with photovoltaic panels, individual aerothermal systems in each home, underfloor heating and cooling, and personalized controls for temperature and humidity in the various rooms.
This promotion takes over from the homes on Paseo de la Estación and represents an intermediate step towards the development of the La Aviación neighbourhood. The City Council will open the registration period for families, couples, and young people interested in the coming months, with plans to hold the public draw during the first quarter of 2027.
