Campo Real revives the cucaña on September 9 with ham for the most skilled

Campo Real will resume its traditional cucaña on September 9, a challenge that will test the skill and endurance of the participants. The event, organised by a local group, will bring together teams of three members competing to reach the prizes placed at the top of a greased pole, with ham as the main bounty.

Registration is now open and can be done in person at the El Olivar Youth and Childhood Centre by filling out a form with the representative's details and a contact phone number. The deadline is September 10, although the rules also mention the possibility of registering online until September 7.

All individuals over 18 years old can participate, as well as those under 16 with a signed authorisation from their legal guardian. There is no limit on the number of teams, and each team must designate a captain who will act as a spokesperson to the organisers.

Four phases of climbing

The challenge will take place in four phases, with an initial draw to decide the order of participation. In the first phase, a single member from each team will have one minute to try to reach the prizes. If no team succeeds, a second phase will follow with two players per team, and a third with all three members.

In the fourth and final phase, the team captains will be able to ally and form a human tower to try to reach the ham. The jury, composed of the organising group, will have the final decision and may declare the prize void if deemed appropriate.

The organisers warn that they are not responsible for any injuries that may occur during the event, both among participants and spectators. The prizes, the value of which will increase as one ascends the cucaña, are yet to be determined.
