The Aranjuez City Council has approved the start of the process to rehabilitate the roadways in Plaza de San Antonio and San Antonio Street, with a budget of €869,131.75 and a timeframe of five months.
The City Council of Aranjuez has approved the start of the contracting process for the ecological rehabilitation of the roadways and the surrounding area of the Plaza de San Antonio. The project, which will also improve San Antonio Street up to the Palacio de Silvela, has a budget of €869,131.75 (VAT included) and an execution period of five months.
The intervention is part of the Residential Environments of Scheduled Rehabilitation (ERRP) of the Old Town programme, funded by European Next Generation funds through an agreement between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, the Community of Madrid, and the City Council itself. The project includes two lines of action: the recovery of ecological connectivity and the repair of pavements.
Regarding ecological connectivity, trees will be replanted and biodiversity islands will be created with ground-covering and shrub vegetation adapted to the climate. These areas will be located on the north side of San Antonio Street, between Palacio de Silvela and Príncipe de la Paz streets, and on both sides of the street in the section between Príncipe de la Paz and Plaza de San Antonio.
The pavement repairs will restore the damaged areas of San Antonio Street and incorporate elements to prevent vehicle encroachment and avoid the compaction of the natural soil. In the vehicle traffic roadways surrounding the square, work will be carried out on all pavements, maintaining their original composition and materials to protect the heritage value of the space.
This is not the first time the City Council has attempted to advance the project. In March 2026, the initial tender for the work was issued, but the process was left vacant. With the approval of the new process, the municipal government hopes that the works can begin once the awarding is completed.
The Urbanism delegate, Ignacio Díaz Toribio, has stated that the government team has worked to obtain the necessary authorization and funding:
