The City Council of Coslada launches on September 1 a home meal service for the elderly and people with reduced mobility, with free delivery and the option to collect at municipal centres.

The City Council of Coslada, through the Department of Social Services and Elderly, will launch the new Municipal Home Meal Service on September 1. It is aimed at elderly people and those with reduced mobility in the municipality.

The initiative seeks more than just ensuring healthy eating. According to the council, it aims to facilitate daily life, promote autonomy, prevent situations of vulnerability, and contribute to allowing people more time to participate, socialise, and enjoy life in the city.

The service will offer healthy, varied menus designed by nutritionists, with different options tailored to each person's needs. Users will be able to choose between lunch, dinner, or both.

Additionally, each person can decide how to receive the service: menus can be delivered directly to their home, with no additional cost for delivery, or collected at any of the five municipal senior centres in Coslada, if this option is more convenient.

One of the added values will be periodic contact with users. In addition to delivering the menus, visits from social agents will allow for direct contact and help detect possible situations of vulnerability, isolation, or need for support.

In this way, the Municipal Home Meal Service also becomes a tool for prevention and support, facilitating the early detection of situations that may require intervention or support from municipal services.

The councillor for Social Services and Elderly, Charo Arroyo, has highlighted that “we want this service to go far beyond just delivering a meal to someone's home. We want to facilitate daily life, but also to be close, accompany, and have a new way to detect situations of vulnerability and act when necessary”.

The project also incorporates a perspective related to time usage. Thinking about what to eat, shopping, and cooking are daily tasks that require significant dedication and have traditionally fallen especially on women.

“We want part of that time to be invested in going out, participating, meeting other people, enjoying, and building community. Because time is also quality of life”, Arroyo stated.

With the launch of this new resource, the Department of Social Services and Elderly continues to strengthen municipal policies aimed at promoting autonomy, active aging, preventing situations of vulnerability, and enabling people to remain in their usual environment.

The service will begin operating on Tuesday, September 1. Interested individuals can obtain more information about its operation, available modalities, and access by calling 900 907 816.
