The Madrid municipality will be one of the locations from which the total eclipse can be viewed on August 12. There will be children's workshops and safe observation at La Reguerilla Park.
Next Wednesday, August 12, Fresno de Torote will become one of the spots in the Community of Madrid from which the total solar eclipse can be observed. The Town Hall has prepared a free event at La Reguerilla Park, with activities for all ages and a designated area for observing the phenomenon.
The eclipse will begin at 19:36 hours and the totality phase will last 53 seconds, a brief interval but enough to experience one of the most anticipated astronomical events of recent decades. The event is part of the so-called 'Trio of Spanish Eclipses' (2026, 2027, and 2028), with the next occurrence scheduled for next year.
The day will kick off at 17:30 hours with an information and outreach point about the eclipse, children's workshops, and activities to learn in a playful way. Among the planned activities for the little ones are a face painting workshop, a creative drawing session, and an activity to understand how this phenomenon occurs. The programme will run until 21:30 hours.
This initiative is part of the regional programme 'Villages with Life – Trio of Eclipses 2026/27/28', promoted by the Community of Madrid for municipalities located in the totality strip. The Town Hall requested to join this call, which includes the installation of an observation point and the development of educational and outreach activities.
Throughout the afternoon, La Reguerilla Park will have monitors providing information to attendees and ensuring safe viewing of the eclipse, a key aspect as it is a phenomenon that should not be observed directly without proper protection.
The mayor, Ana Isabel Arias, has invited residents and visitors to participate. “We invite everyone to come to La Reguerilla Park to enjoy a unique event. It will be a great opportunity to learn, share with family, and safely and participatively witness one of the most spectacular astronomical phenomena of our time,” she stated.
With this proposal, the council reinforces its commitment to scientific outreach and family leisure, positioning the municipality as one of the privileged spots in the region to follow the eclipse. Admission is free and no prior registration is required.
