The Getafe City Council has transformed the old walkable fountain next to the hermitage in San Isidro Park into a modern children's fountain, with usage hours designed not to disturb the neighbours. The investment has been €285,000.
The San Isidro neighbourhood, one of the oldest in Getafe, now has a new children's fountain in the park of the same name. The City Council, through the Maintenance delegation, has converted the old walkable fountain located next to the hermitage into a facility designed for children to cool off during the hot months.
The new fountain joins the one that has been operational since last summer on Huelva Street, in the Juan de la Cierva neighbourhood, which, according to the Maintenance councillor, Roberto Fernández, has been very well received by families. “The little ones in Getafe now have their second fountain of this type, in the San Isidro neighbourhood, following the successful use of the one that opened last summer on Huelva Street for the families of Juan de la Cierva,” the councillor explained.
The installation has involved a €285,000 investment and has been designed with limited usage hours to respect the rest of the neighbours. Thus, the fountain will operate from 11:00 to 15:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00, avoiding siesta hours and the night, a measure that is already applied at the fountain on Huelva Street.
The surroundings will be completed with the installation of new benches for families, as the City Council has announced. This fountain adds to the walkable fountains in San Sebastián Square and Arboleda Street, as well as the children's fountain on Cataluña Street.
The opening of this fountain coincides with the second phase of the new San Isidro Sports Centre, which is still underway. This work, with a budget of over €8.5 million, includes the construction of the Gregorio Serrano football field, multipurpose rooms, changing rooms, and the relocation of the central offices of the Sports delegation. The aim, according to the City Council, is to integrate the new facility with the park so that residents have a larger, modern, and accessible leisure area.
With this initiative, the Getafe City Council reinforces the offer of water leisure activities for the youngest in the neighbourhoods, a growing demand during the summer. The fountain is already operational and will be available for use throughout the summer season.
