The Las Rozas City Council has activated the first of the three dog showers that will be installed in different areas of the municipality. The device, an arch with water sprinklers, is already operational in the dog area of Kálamos Street, in El Cantizal, according to the local government.
The goal is to cool dogs during the hottest days of summer and reduce the risk of heat stroke. Dogs dissipate heat worse than humans, as they only sweat through their pads and nose, and eliminate most of their body heat through panting.
In addition to cooling, these showers help clean sensitive areas such as pads, abdomen, or genital area, which prevents skin infections. They also aim to discourage owners from using public fountains or ponds in parks to bathe their pets, thus improving the use of public resources.
The local government plans to install two more arches in other dog areas of the municipality, although it has not yet specified the locations or dates. In the meantime, residents of El Cantizal can already visit Kálamos Street to try out the new facility.
This initiative adds to other municipal measures for animal welfare and aims to make dog walks more bearable during heatwaves, an increasingly frequent problem in the Community of Madrid.
