The City Council of Rivas-Vaciamadrid has organised a week of leisure and intergenerational meetings that includes sports, theatre, magic, and an outdoor meal. Registrations for several activities are already open.
Rivas-Vaciamadrid will celebrate a new edition of Senior Week from 30 September to 6 October, with a programme that combines sports, culture, and intergenerational encounters. The initiative coincides with the International Day of Older Persons, commemorated on 1 October.
Before the official start, from 14 to 26 September, the traditional Games Tournament will take place, featuring chinchón, rummy, tute, rana, mus, petanque, and dominoes. Registrations for these championships will remain open until 11 September at the senior centres.
The inaugural day will be on Wednesday, 30 September, with a sports activity at the Polideportivo Cerro del Telégrafo, from 10:00 to 13:00. Participants will be able to practice Nordic walking, aerosalsa, strength circuit, pilates, sensory activities, chess, petanque, table tennis, and paddle, as well as a bike ride through Rivas with the Bicinrivas service. Those who complete at least four activities stamped in a passport will receive a gift while supplies last. In the afternoon, at 18:00, the company Jamming will present improvisational theatre in the plaza de la Constitución with free entry.
On Thursday, 1 October, at 17:00, the municipal senior centre El Parque will reopen. After touring the new facilities, workshops on soap making, zumba, improvisational theatre, and mindfulness have been scheduled, and the day will end with a dance.
On Friday, 2 October, the exhibition ‘The Odyssey: the Immersive Journey’ will be open for viewing, an experience that brings the audience closer to this classic work through new technologies and scenic languages. Registration is required until 15 September, which can be done via a web form or in person at the senior centres. On the same day, at 17:00, a generational scavenger hunt will take place starting from plaza 19 de Abril to discover the old town of Rivas, organised with the Council of Seniors.
On Saturday, 3 October, a visit to the historic garden of El Capricho is planned, with departures from the Felipe II centre at 8:30, from César Manrique street (next to the health centre) at 8:45, and from the roundabout of the Social Area of Parque de Asturias at 9:00. Prior registration is also required until 15 September.
On Monday, 5 October, at 10:00, the Casa de Asociaciones will host a talk on unwanted loneliness with the Municipal Council of Seniors. At 18:00, the Sala Covibar will present the magic and mentalism show ‘Libres’, with free entry until capacity is reached.
The week will conclude on Tuesday, 6 October, with an outdoor meal in Parque San Isidro, organised with the Board of the senior centres. Tickets can be collected from 16 to 29 September by presenting the membership card. At 13:00, a musical group will perform, at 14:00, migas will be distributed with a ticket, at 16:00, prizes for the games championships will be awarded, and at 17:00, there will be dancing in plaza 19 de Abril.
