The transformation centres in six neighbourhoods of San Martín de la Vega will become urban art spaces in the coming months. The initiative aims to eliminate graffiti and vandalism.

The San Martín de la Vega Town Hall will expand its urban beautification and graffiti prevention project to six new locations in various neighbourhoods of the municipality over the coming months. The interventions will take place in transformation centres and other areas of Pasaje Rosales, Buero Vallejo, Santa Elena, Maestro Rodrigo, Gabriela Mistral, and calle Bruselas.

This new phase continues the efforts of recent months, some of which have been carried out by local artists, such as the one recently completed in Isaac Peral.

According to the Town Hall, surfaces with graffiti and vandalism will be removed and transformed into artistic spaces integrated into their surroundings. The themes will vary by location: from designs promoting environmental respect to references to the streets or areas of the municipality.

The project is part of the Graffiti Prevention and Beautification Plan, through which the council addresses furniture and elements of the urban landscape to improve its image and prevent new graffiti. The mayor, Rafael Martínez, stated:

We want to continue extending this project to more neighbourhoods because we are finding that urban art can help us transform spaces that were previously deteriorated or covered in graffiti into much more cared-for and pleasant places.

Martínez added that the initiative is not limited to painting a transformer:

But rather to improve our surroundings and ensure that everyday spaces have a different image. We will continue to incorporate new areas because we want a more cared-for San Martín.

Once the upcoming interventions are completed, the Town Hall will announce the designs and results of each action.
