Colmenarejo will experience a partial solar eclipse on Wednesday with a totality of about 8 seconds. The Town Hall reminds residents of the safety rules to observe it without harming their eyesight.

Next Wednesday, August 12, Colmenarejo will witness one of the most anticipated astronomical phenomena of the year: a partial solar eclipse. According to data provided by the Town Hall, the event will begin at 19:36, reach its peak at 20:32, and conclude with sunset at 21:17. The totality, the moment when the Moon completely covers the solar disc, will last approximately 8 seconds.

Forecasts suggest that the sky over the Sierra de Guadarrama will allow for a good view of the spectacle, but the Town Hall insists that observation must be done with maximum safety. Looking directly at the Sun without protection can cause serious and irreversible eye damage, municipal sources remind.

For this reason, only specific eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2:2015 standard should be used. These must be put on before looking at the Sun and not removed while observing the phenomenon. For younger viewers, adult supervision is essential.

Those using cameras, binoculars, or telescopes must equip them with specific solar filters placed on the front of the instrument. Homemade methods, such as X-rays, floppy disks, CDs, or smoked glass, are strongly discouraged, as are regular sunglasses, which do not provide adequate protection.

The Town Hall of Colmenarejo has disseminated these tips through its official channels to ensure residents enjoy the event responsibly. The event starts at 19:36, although it is recommended to find a location with good visibility towards the west, where the Sun will set.

This eclipse comes in a year when astronomical phenomena have sparked great interest. The next significant event will be the total eclipse of 2027, which will be visible in southern Spain. For now, the residents of Colmenarejo have a unique opportunity to observe an event that will not occur under these conditions for several years.
