The Town Hall of Valdemorillo is holding a meeting on September 30 to gather local opinions on the Social Acceptance Study for the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in the southwest of Madrid. The survey, which is anonymous, can also be completed online.
The Town Hall of Valdemorillo, through its Department of Environment, is collaborating with the Community of Madrid on the Social Acceptance Study for the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in the southwest of the region. The aim is to understand the opinions of hunters, farmers, landowners, and residents in general before releasing specimens.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 30 at 19:00 hours in the auditorium of the María Giralt Municipal Building. The objectives of the study will be presented at the meeting, and attendees will be able to respond to an anonymous survey. It can also be completed online.
Representatives from the Artemisan Foundation, dedicated to the management and conservation of wildlife species, and from the company Tragsatec will participate in the meeting. The survey asks about the level of knowledge of the species, the assessment of its possible return to the area, and other similar aspects.
All the opinions gathered will be of great importance,” highlights the area councillor, Miguel Partida.
The councillor points out that the responses will help in making final decisions to minimise the chances of failure if the reintroduction is ultimately carried out.
The Community of Madrid has pre-selected several priority environments due to their habitat conditions and rabbit density. Among them is the southwest area, which includes municipalities such as Robledo de Chavela, Navalagamella, and San Martín de Valdeiglesias.
The process is part of the protocols of European projects such as LIFE, which require assessing the impact and social acceptance before releasing specimens.
