The San Fernando de Henares City Council presents its sports programme for the 2026-2027 season, with nearly 40 courses and over 180 activity groups for all ages. The reopening of the Justo Gómez Salto Sports Centre, scheduled for September 26, will be the highlight event.
The City Council of San Fernando de Henares presented its sports programme for the 2026-2027 season on Tuesday, which includes nearly 40 courses and over 180 activity groups for all ages. The offer covers various disciplines, from team sports to fitness activities, aiming for every resident to find their space.
The mayor, Javier Corpa, highlighted the collaboration of local clubs and emphasised the government's efforts to improve public services. According to Corpa, by the end of the term, and since 2019, nearly 100% of the sports facilities in the municipality will have been addressed.
Registrations for some modalities will begin next week. The complete programme has already been delivered to mailboxes and can also be consulted on the City Council's website. Additionally, free-use facilities will open: the indoor pool will be available from September 7 and the fitness room from September 1.
The calendar includes highlighted events such as the Bicycle Festival (September 27), the XLVII Christmas Cross (December 13), and the XLVI Popular Race (April 18). The summer sports camps, which this year had over 3,000 places to facilitate family reconciliation, will also return in 2027.
The major event will be the reopening of the Justo Gómez Salto Municipal Sports Centre, scheduled for September 26. The facilities were flooded due to the historic rise of the Jarama River in March 2025, rendering the hydraulic and electrical systems inoperative. The works began in April and have allowed for a progressive opening: the indoor pavilion and multipurpose room in October 2025, the fitness room in January 2026, and the summer pools in June of this year.
The repairs have been financed by the City Council and the central government. The Community of Madrid has not made any financial contribution, unlike in previous similar situations. The reopening day will feature the collaboration of local clubs and athletes, offering free events for all audiences.
