The Local Government Board of Alcalá de Henares has approved the rehabilitation project for Josep Pla Street and its surroundings, in Ciudad 10, with an investment of over €211,000.
The Alcalá de Henares City Council has given the green light to the rehabilitation project for Josep Pla Street and its surroundings, in the Ciudad 10 neighbourhood. The action, included in the 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods' plan, will have a municipal investment of over €211,000.
The intervention responds to the deterioration accumulated over time and the growth of tree roots, which have lifted the pavement in several areas. These damages affect both the sidewalks and the road, making pedestrian transit difficult, with a consequent risk to the safety of residents and visitors.
The Councillor for Urban Works and Maintenance, Antonio Saldaña, has pointed out that the work responds to a community demand: "We continue to advance in our commitment to improve all the neighbourhoods of Alcalá. With this action, we respond to a demand from the residents, eliminating accessibility problems and renewing a space that has needed comprehensive intervention for years."
The works include the complete renewal of the road pavement, the repair of areas affected by the roots, and the improvement of both sidewalks. On the left side, the pedestrian route will be completely rebuilt to definitively solve the pavement liftings. On the right side, the pedestrian crossings and routes will be adapted to make them fully accessible.
Additionally, accessibility elements for people with reduced mobility and visual disabilities will be installed. The manhole covers and drains will also be adjusted to integrate them into the new pavements.
Saldaña emphasized that the goal goes beyond resurfacing: "It's not just about resurfacing a street, but transforming this environment to make it more accessible, safe, comfortable, and sustainable. We want residents to enjoy higher quality public spaces and continue advancing in the modernization of all the neighbourhoods in the city."
The works are part of the municipal plan 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods', which aims to act on the most degraded spaces in the city. The intervention on Josep Pla Street will directly benefit the residents of Ciudad 10, who will see improved accessibility and safety in their daily lives.
