The City Council of Aranjuez has awarded HPC Ibérica, S.A. the construction of the urban water park planned at Plaza de Abastos, next to the José Luis Sampedro Gardens. The contract, which includes both project and construction, amounts to €200,676.08 including taxes, and the company has a period of three months to complete the work.
The project, which is listed on the State Contracting Platform, covers an area of approximately 120 square meters where 16 fountains will be installed at ground level, without a permanent water sheet. The emerging jets will be distributed in an orthogonal or radial grid, with separations of between 2 and 3 meters to avoid interference and allow free passage of people.
The design aims to integrate into the environment and ensure safety: the water will be recovered through drainage grates to a return circuit, treated for human contact, and each fountain will feature lighting synchronized with play programs. An automatic refill system for tanks will also be included to compensate for evaporation.
The spokesperson councillor for the Independent Citizen Group for Aranjuez (ACIPA), Jesús Mario Blasco, lamented that the works had not started earlier so that the installation could be operational this summer. “Now we will have to wait a few months for the emerging jets to refresh the riverside population,” he noted.
It is a complete shame that this work could not have been awarded earlier so that residents could benefit from its effects this summer.
Blasco expressed hope that this would be the first of many similar projects in other neighbourhoods and recalled that there are deteriorated fountains and hydraulic elements, such as the one in Plaza de la Unesco. “We hope that this installation at Plaza de Abastos will be the first of many others,” he added.
The works must be completed within a maximum period of three months from the formalization of the contract, so the park could be ready by the end of autumn if no setbacks arise.
