The Alcalá de Henares City Council has approved the terms to tender works to enhance the Molino Borgoñón, with an investment exceeding 400,000 euros.
The Alcalá de Henares City Council has taken a new step towards completing the rehabilitation of the Molino Borgoñón, a historic flour mill from the 15th century located on the Isla del Colegio. The Local Government Board approved the terms of conditions to tender the works for reintegration, preventive conservation, and enhancement of the property and its industrial elements.
The project, promoted by the Historical Heritage Department, involves an investment of over 400,000 euros, as confirmed by the area councillor, Vicente Pérez. The works include the recovery of roofs, floors, and the industrial machinery found inside the mill.
“Following the stabilisation and consolidation works carried out, we now continue with works that include the completion of these tasks for its enhancement, as well as comprehensive action in the Miller's House,” Pérez explained. The councillor added that this action “completes the rehabilitation works of the Molino Borgoñón on the Isla del Colegio.”
The Molino Borgoñón, also known as the Colegio mill, was purchased by Cardinal Cisneros in 1509 to supply the Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso of the University. Its deterioration worsened due to a fire at the end of the 20th century, which left it without a roof.
With this new phase, the City Council aims to recover a key heritage asset for the city. Once the works are awarded, the tasks will allow for the opening to the public of a space that is part of Alcalá's historical memory. The next step will be the tendering and subsequent execution of the project, the timelines of which will be known after the awarding.
