The Colombian company Tchyminigagua presents 'The Comical Acrobatics of Othello', a circus version of Shakespeare's classic, this Thursday in Rivas-Vaciamadrid. The performance is free with prior reservation.
Rivas-Vaciamadrid hosts a very particular version of Shakespeare's classic this Thursday, September 10. The Colombian foundation Tchyminigagua presents 'The Comical Acrobatics of Othello' at the Auditorio Pilar Bardem, a 60-minute show aimed at family audiences that fuses popular theatre, acrobatics, and humour.
The play transforms the tragedy of the Moor of Venice into a comedy starring a company of clowns. The plot follows Othello, husband of Desdemona, and Iago, who, driven by jealousy over not being promoted, devises a plan to destroy him. Iago manipulates Othello into believing that his wife is unfaithful, leading the protagonist to madness and to commit acts of abuse and femicide against Desdemona, only to discover later that she was innocent.
The production combines elements of popular theatre with festive circus acrobatics, a technique unique to Tchyminigagua, featuring jumps, human towers, and scenic figures. The company, which has been working for over four decades in theatre and in the culture of social transformation and peace, has conducted 17 international tours across Europe, Asia, Africa, and America, reaching over 350 festivals.
The performance begins at 19:00 hours and entry is free, with prior reservation on the website entradas.rivasciudad.es or at the box office, according to opening hours.
