The Colmenar Viejo City Council opens enrolment this Monday for a course on Egypt and biblical peoples that will be held from October 2026 to April 2027 at the Pablo Neruda Cultural Centre, with teachers from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
The Department of Culture of Colmenar Viejo has opened enrolment this Monday for the course ‘Ancient Civilisations. Egypt and the Peoples of the Bible in Antiquity: Cultural Aspects and Research’. Classes will take place from October 2026 to April 2027 at the Pablo Neruda Cultural Centre and will be taught by teachers from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
The programme is divided into two periods: the first runs from October 2026 to February 2027 and the second from February to April 2027. In total, there will be 19 lectures of 90 minutes, scheduled every Friday from 19:00 to 20:30 hours.
The usual venue is the ‘Pablo Neruda Cultural Centre’, located at calle del Real, 40, except for sessions that will be moved to the Pósito Municipal, at calle del Cura, 2, which will be announced in advance.
The first part of the course is titled ‘Egypt in Antiquity’ and the second, ‘Peoples of the Bible’. The sessions will be taught by professors from the Autonomous University of Madrid Jesús Trello Espada, a doctor in Ancient World Studies and Economic Sciences, and María José López Grande, a doctor in Prehistory and Archaeology.
Enrolment costs 45 euros for each of the two periods. Registration can be done at the ‘Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre’, at calle Iglesia, 12, from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, or through the municipal website www.colmenarviejo.com.
The syllabus for the first part starts on 16 October 2026 with a session on the Nile and its creatures, and continues with lectures on the figure of the pharaoh, high-ranking officials of the Egyptian government, queens and princesses of the court, temples and the economy during the New Kingdom, priestly hierarchies, foreign populations in the Nile valley, Egyptian travellers in literature, and the first Spanish research perspectives on Egypt, until 12 February 2027.
The second part begins on 19 February 2027 with an introduction to biblical writings and covers the patriarchs, the chosen people under Egyptian rule, the conquest of Canaan and the Israelite monarchy, Nebuchadnezzar and the captivity, the pharaoh Taharqa, the figure of Jesus, the creation of the Christian doctrinal corpus, and the Alexandria Bible, with the last session on 23 April 2027.
