The municipality will host a day with round tables, food stalls, and children's activities on September 20. Nobel Peace Prize winner Carlos Umaña will participate in the announcement of the Nuclear Clock.

Manzanares el Real will celebrate a multicultural day on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in honour of the International Day of Peace Culture and the anniversary of its declaration as an International Zone of Peace Culture. The activities, organised by the Manzanares el Real Town Hall and the Peace Culture Neighbourhood Council, will take place in the Plenary Hall, Avenida de Madrid, and the Community Air Space.

The programme will kick off at 10:00 h in the Plenary Hall with an institutional welcome featuring the mayor Alicia Gallego, the councillor for Social Welfare and Citizen Participation, Patricia Ibáñez, the initiative's promoter Valentín Oliveros, and the coordinator of the Neighbourhood Council, Marisa Tejada. Following this, from 10:00 to 12:00 h, the round table “Racism, Coexistence, and Multiculturalism” will take place, providing a space for analysis to dismantle prejudices based on the values of peace culture.

Between 11:00 and 15:00 h, Avenida de Madrid and the Community Air Space will host the Associations Zone and Cultural Tents, which will remain open throughout the day. There will be three craft tents dedicated to Manzanares el Real, Palestine, and Iran, a participatory painting tent with José Thamatatoo, and a signature collection tent. The international food stalls will offer traditional flavours from Belgium, Iran, Venezuela, and Morocco.

The programme includes children's and family activities such as “Stories from Around the World” with Yoana Siri and Ana Cristina Herreros from the publishing house Libros de las Malas Compañías; the theatre-circus workshop “The Mischievous Little Dragons” by La Fábrica de Sueños; the workshop “The Ladies Who Fly and Teach to Fly”; the workshop “The Trees of the World” with ARBA Manzanares; the “Games of the World” coordinated by the AFA of CEIP Peña Sacra; the Peace Mural, and a peace performance by the children of the municipality directed by Javier Nieto. The Municipal Music Band and School will perform with singers Belén Ananda and Tania Ruth.

The day will emphasise global disarmament and historical memory. The launch of the Nuclear Clock in the municipality will be announced in support of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), with the presence of Nobel Peace Prize winner Carlos Umaña. A commemorative event will also take place featuring a dance performance and the reading of the Iranian manifesto marking four years since the assassination of Mahsa Amini.

At 19:00 h, the participating micro-stories will be read, and the awards for the competition will be presented. The day will culminate at the Old Castle with a parade, a community tree planting, and a Tibetan bowl bath.

The entities and associations participating in the meeting area include AFA CEIP Peña Sacra, Municipal Theatre School, Peña Sirio School, La Fábrica de Sueños, Cultural Association El Real de Manzanares, Amnesty International, CAUM, ARBA Manzanares, Impulsa Sierra, Hope Palestine, and the Yamba Project Aid and Development Foundation.

The event is an opportunity to reflect on coexistence and multiculturalism in the municipality,” according to sources from the Peace Culture Neighbourhood Council.

Participation in all activities is free and open until capacity is reached. The organisation recommends checking the municipal website for any possible changes to the programme.
