The Plenary Hall will host on September 20, from 10:00 to 12:00, a day for the International Day of Culture of Peace with a round table on racism, coexistence, and multiculturalism. Entry is free until full capacity.
The Plenary Hall of the Manzanares el Real Town Hall will host a debate and reflection day on Sunday, September 20, from 10:00 to 12:00, on the occasion of the International Day of Culture of Peace. The event includes the round table “Racism, coexistence, and multiculturalism” and an institutional opening commemorating the anniversary of the declaration of the municipality as a Zone of International Culture of Peace.
The institutional welcome will feature speeches from the mayor, Alicia Gallego, the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Patricia Ibáñez, the promoter Valentín Oliveros, and Marisa Tejada, coordinator of the Neighbourhood Council. Also speaking will be Ana Barrero, president of the Culture of Peace Foundation; Mario Grande from Amnesty International; Joanen Cunyat, advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people; Carlos Umaña, board member of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), an organization awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; and Mario J. Gallego, mayor of Albendiego, a municipality recognized as a Zone of International Culture of Peace after Manzanares el Real.
The round table will bring together five speakers and a moderator to discuss racism and prejudice from the values of the Culture of Peace. Speakers will include Luis Miguel Flórez, Nicaraguan and member of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR); Waleed Saleh, professor and researcher of Iraqi origin; Alberto, sociologist expert in migration; José Ángel, psychologist and professor specializing in Education for Peace, Interculturality, and Conflict Regulation; and Almudena Izquierdo, activist from the Caravana Abriendo Fronteras network. The journalist and local resident Laura García, a member of the Culture of Peace Neighbourhood Council, will act as moderator.
