The Casa de la Cultura in Miraflores de la Sierra has been hosting the travelling exhibition 'The Route of the Manila Galleon' since August 19, exploring the exchange between Asia, Latin America, and Spain.

Miraflores de la Sierra joins the Red Itiner of the Community of Madrid with the exhibition 'The Route of the Manila Galleon: the happy union between Asia, Latin America, and Spain', which can be visited at the Casa de la Cultura (calle José Yáñez, 7) from August 19 to September 7.

The exhibition, the second of two this year in the municipality, proposes a journey along the historic trade route that connected Southeast Asia with Hispanic America and the Iberian Peninsula for centuries. Through it, products such as tea, spices, and porcelain arrived in Spain, but also customs and artistic expressions that left a deep mark.

One of the main highlights of the exhibition is the Manila shawl, the handcrafted piece that became a symbol of that cultural encounter. Visitors will be able to see shawls from different eras and styles, along with other historically significant objects, such as the lacquered boxes in which they travelled or the silver coins minted by the Spanish monarchy in the 16th century.

The exhibition, organised by the Red Itiner of the Community of Madrid, allows visitors to discover how that exchange was not only commercial but also cultural and artistic, and how the Manila shawl ultimately became a symbol of the fusion between the Spanish soul and Hispanic American exuberance.

Entry is free, and the exhibition will remain open until September 7 during the hours of the Casa de la Cultura. It is an opportunity to closely explore one of the most fascinating routes in global history from the mountains of Madrid.
