The El Soto Sociocultural Centre in Móstoles hosts the exhibition 'Kaizen', by artist Maca Calma, from September 3 to October 18. The show brings together works created in Chinese ink and rice paper using the sumi-e technique, as well as naïve-style watercolours and digital collage.
The title of the exhibition refers to the Japanese term Kaizen, composed of Kai (change) and Zen (better). The artist proposes a journey that invites reflection on how continuous improvement, even if minimal, accumulates without always being perceived.
Maca Calma, whose main language is colour, presents sumi-e works as an exercise in reduction. In these, she works with Chinese ink and emptiness to focus on silence, restraint, and presence, seeking essence and introspection.
For Maca Calma, sumi-e is a space for meditation within artistic practice, a return to the essential before returning to colour.
The exhibition unfolds like a path to walk, inspired by the growth of bamboo, which does not grow suddenly but in stages. Each knot is a pause, and the works invite the visitor to stop and connect with their own inner rhythm.
The exhibition can be visited at the El Soto Sociocultural Centre in Móstoles during the centre's usual hours. Admission is free.
