The QueerCineMad festival returns to Rivas-Vaciamadrid on December 10 and 11 with two contests for local filmmakers: one for shorts and another for projects, both with a €500 prize and a deadline of November 15.
Filmmakers registered in Rivas-Vaciamadrid can submit their works to the two local contests that the QueerCineMad festival holds in the municipality. The registration deadline for both competitions ends on November 15 and the prize for each is €500, according to the rules published by the City Council.
The 7th Local LGTBI Short Film Contest accepts fiction, documentary, or animation short films, as well as audiovisual pieces such as video art, music videos, or advertisements, as long as they have a narrative character. The maximum duration is 30 minutes and the works must be original.
Participants must be over 18 years old and registered in Rivas, or minors with a legal representative. The director of the short must be registered in the municipality or, alternatively, two of the technical and artistic sections (photography, editing, acting, script, or production) must be carried out by residents of Rivas.
The selected shorts will be screened on Friday, December 11, 2026 during the local short film session of the festival, and will compete for the audience award for the best local short, which is worth €500 minus legal withholdings.
Submissions must be made before November 15 via a file-sharing platform, such as WeTransfer, to the emails cultura@rivasciudad.es and djdiaz@rivasciudad.es. The subject line must indicate Local LGTBI Short Film Contest QueerCineMad 2026. The file must include the title of the short and be accompanied by the official festival registration form completed.
The 6th Local Short Film Project Contest operates differently: instead of submitting a finished work, a project with a script and visual and conceptual treatment must be presented. The person submitting it must be registered in Rivas and have an active role in the project, whether in direction, production, script, or lead acting.
The projects will be presented to the public in the session on Thursday, December 10, 2026. The prize includes the production and completion of the short film to be presented at the 2027 edition of QueerCineMad in Rivas, with a budget of €500 minus withholdings.
The documentation for this second contest (registration form, script, and visual and conceptual treatment) should be sent to the same emails, with the subject Local LGTBI Short Film Projects Contest. QueerCineMad. Optionally, a PowerPoint or visual material for the public presentation can be attached. The registration form is available on the municipal website, in the Culture section.
The jury will deliberate after receiving the proposals and after the presentations on December 10, evaluating the written and visual materials submitted.
