San Lorenzo de El Escorial celebrates the eighth edition of the Black Legend Days on September 26 and 27, focused on the Catholic Monarchs under the title 'The Origin of Everything'. San Lorenzo de El Escorial will host the eighth edition of the Black Legend Days on September 26 and 27, which this year will be dedicated to the Catholic Monarchs under the title 'The Origin of Everything'. The programme combines conferences, round tables, cinema, music, and historical recreation in various locations throughout the municipality.
The days are organised by the Peña San Lorenzo and the Ateneo Escurialense, with the collaboration of the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Town Hall and support from other institutions. The event will address the reign of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon from historical, cultural, and social perspectives.
The programme will kick off on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 AM with the inauguration. Following this, Manuel Lucena Giraldo will give the lecture The Origin of Hispanity, followed by four discussion panels on the milestones of the Black Legend, culture and daily life, the origins of discoveries, and royal conquests. The Saturday session will conclude from 7:30 PM with a session dedicated to the television series Isabel. The meetings will be moderated by the historical communicators Vicente G. Olaya and Javier Santamarta del Pozo.
On Sunday, September 27, the activities will take place across various venues in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. At 11:00 AM, the Royal Theatre Coliseum Carlos III will host the concert Hispania Restituta. Concert for the Beginning of an Empire, featuring guitarist Carlos Wernicke and soprano Cecilia Lavilla Berganza, with an audiovisual presentation prepared for this edition.
Afterward, at 12:30 PM, historical recreation groups from various parts of Spain will perform a parade that will end at the Plaza de la Constitución. There, the Surrender of Granada will be staged, a historical recreation funded by the Community of Madrid.
The performance will bring this historical episode closer to the public through the participation of reenactors and a staging designed for its development in the Plaza de la Constitución.
