The Giralt Laporta Auditorium hosts the twenty-fifth edition of the competition starting this Saturday, 26 September, with six finalist companies and two performances out of competition. The closing will be on 24 October.
The Giralt Laporta Auditorium in Valdemorillo inaugurates this Saturday 26 September the twenty-fifth edition of the National Amateur Theatre Competition, which will run until 24 October. The event will open, out of competition, with the play Rinconete y Cortadillo, based on Cervantes' exemplary novel, presented by Factoría Teatro, featuring Chema Sabarga and Alba Pineda on stage. The performance is part of the Network of Theatres of the Community of Madrid.
The competition has received 135 productions aspiring to participate, of which six finalist companies will ultimately compete. The performances will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 20:00 hours. The first competing production will arrive on 2 October with the comedy El apagón, by Klan Teatro from Torrelodones. The following day, Saturday 3, Paraskenia Teatro from Talavera will present the drama Lo que no se dice.
On Friday 9 October, it will be the turn of the classic La moza de cántaro, by Citra Teatro from Tomelloso. Hours later, the Madrilenians from A. C. Tomatelón will stage their musical adaptation of Romeo y Julieta. The finalists' performances will conclude on 16 October with the comedy Me dejas kao, by Teatro Estable de Leganés, and on Saturday 17 with Pequeño asesinato, by Espantanublos Teatro from Teruel.
Out of competition, the comedy De tripas corazón, by Autobombo Producciones, will be performed on 23 October. The closing gala, on Saturday 24 October, will be hosted by the Municipal Theatre Group COVAL, which will once again stage Una historia de teatro, the same play that closed the first edition of the competition 25 years ago.
The selected plays compete for awards in categories such as best group, finalist, best production, direction, and lead and supporting actors. The Town Hall, through the Department of Culture and Tourism, thanks the sponsorship of Ardagh Metal Packaging, which provides cash prizes, and the collaboration of companies such as La Casa de Manolo Franco, Peluquería Xcluisiv@, Bravo Electrodomésticos, Valdemorillo Turismo, Farmacia San Juan, Gestoría Ramos, Alcampo, La Esfera Gráfica, cafetería Las Chimeneas, Herbolario Ángela, and Club Aeromodelismo Petirrojo.
