Majadahonda City Council and Gescomer have signed a collaboration agreement worth €30,000 to improve the municipal Market until August 2027. The agreement includes the creation of a brand, a improvement plan, and a campaign to reduce plastics.
The Majadahonda City Council and the Association for the Management and Modernisation of Urban Commerce and Markets (Gescomer) have entered into a collaboration agreement for the modernisation of the Majadahonda Market. The agreement has a budget of €30,000 and includes actions until August 2027.
Among the planned initiatives is the organisation of the IV National Day on the Modernisation of Outdoor Commerce, as reported by the City Council. A brand “Mercadillo de Majadahonda” will also be created, legally protected and applicable to physical and digital supports, linked to values of quality, sustainability, safety, and professionalism.
The plan also includes the development of a 2027 Improvement Plan to promote the continuous evolution of this outdoor commercial space, located in the city centre. Additionally, a campaign will be carried out to reduce plastics, with fewer single-use bags and containers being provided.
A monitoring committee will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the agreed objectives within the set deadlines.
This responds to the goal of this government team to continue improving one of the most important commercial and tourist attractions in Majadahonda, its market, which attracts thousands of people to our city every Tuesday and Saturday, with the economic impact that this entails. In this sense, close collaboration with traders is essential,” said the mayor of Majadahonda, Lola Moreno.
The Majadahonda Market occupies 10,000 square metres between Erillas, Santa Catalina, and de la Luna streets, in the city centre. It has 156 stalls and 180 holders, distributed between the two days of weekly opening. It only closes on local holidays (September 14 and November 25), the Tuesdays and Saturdays prior to the Patron Saint Festivities in September, and on December 25, January 1, and January 6. Its opening hours are 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesdays and 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays.
At the beginning of the year, the City Council created an interactive map of the market to improve visitor accessibility. The tool allows for detailed information about each stall, their contact details, and a directory by types of goods, from textile fashion to decoration, crafts, footwear, hardware, fruits and vegetables, or plants.
