The Town Hall of Tres Cantos has allocated nearly 3 million euros to improve the nine public schools, with works set to finish before the start of the school year. This is in addition to 900,000 euros from the Regional Investment Programme.
The Town Hall of Tres Cantos is taking advantage of the summer to carry out an ambitious plan of works in the nine public schools in the area, aiming to have everything ready for the return to classrooms in September. The municipal investment is around 3 million euros, to which an additional 900,000 euros from the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) of the Community of Madrid is added.
The works are part of the municipal programme 'Open for Holidays', which concentrates the most significant works during the non-school period to avoid interfering with teaching activities. In the last five years, the council has allocated more than 13 million euros to the continuous improvement of the city's educational infrastructure.
One of the most notable interventions is the comprehensive reform of the Early Childhood Education pavilion at CEIP Carmen Hernández Guarch, where, for the first time in a public school in the municipality, a climate control system using aerothermal energy with underfloor heating for both cooling and heating will be installed. An accessible new entrance will also be created, the main lobby will be remodelled to enhance access control, and new drinking fountains will be installed.
At CEIP Antonio Osuna, the Primary pavilion is being completely renovated, aiming to reorganise and adapt teaching spaces to new educational needs. Additionally, windows and other functional elements of the building are being improved.
CEIP Gabriel García Márquez is undergoing a deep renovation of its central pavilion, which will allow for the creation of new administrative and educational spaces, as well as improvements to the school dining room and the renewal of various structural and exterior elements of the centre. The other public schools will also receive upgrades to roofs, carpentry, playgrounds, sports courts, kitchens, dining rooms, drinking fountains, canopies, and accessibility works.
Climate control is one of the priorities of the plan. Of the 900,000 euros from the PIR, the Town Hall will allocate more than 400,000 euros to progressively improve the thermal conditions of classrooms, dining rooms, gyms, and other spaces, depending on the needs of each centre. The remaining 500,000 euros will be used for other specific works in the nine schools.
The Education Councillor, Marisa Peña, emphasised that “thanks to the significant investment effort of the Town Hall, the support of the Community of Madrid, and the ongoing coordination with the management staff of our centres, thousands of students will return in September to much more modern, efficient, accessible schools that are adapted to the real needs of current education.”
Our goal is for both students and teachers to have spaces prepared for the future, increasingly comfortable, safe, and functional, that promote learning and improve their day-to-day experience,” Peña added.
The works, which are taking place during the summer months, will be completed before the start of the school year, ensuring that the more than 6,000 students in Early Childhood and Primary Education in Tres Cantos find their centres in optimal conditions.
