The San Fernando de Henares City Council criticises the increase in the fire service fee from the Community of Madrid, which rises from €30.93 to €35 per inhabitant, a 13% increase.
The San Fernando de Henares City Council has reported the increase in the fee that the Community of Madrid charges municipalities for fire prevention and extinguishing services and rescues. The new regulation raises the fee from €30.93 to €35 per inhabitant, representing an increase of over 13% and also modifies the population limit used to calculate the fees.
The mayor, Javier Corpa, has pointed out that this increase directly impacts the municipal coffers and, therefore, the pockets of the residents:
This money is paid by the residents of San Fernando. Therefore, when the municipal group of the PP talks about tax cuts, they are lying. The Community of Madrid is increasing the burdens that municipalities have to bear and, consequently, the citizens.
The City Council demands that the regional government justify the reasons for this increase and provide “detailed and transparent” information about the evolution of the fee: what income has been obtained, what interventions have been carried out, and what resources are allocated to the provision of the service. Corpa has demanded “transparency, dialogue, and adequate funding.”
Furthermore, the City Council requests that any increase be accompanied by guarantees regarding staffing, material resources, and preventive actions, following warnings from professionals in the sector about the availability of personnel.
