The Municipal Council of San Martín de la Vega has approved an extraordinary credit of €255,892.44 to finance improvements in parks, sports facilities, educational centres, and road safety.
The City Council of San Martín de la Vega has given the green light to a package of investments worth €255,892.44 that will be allocated to improving parks, sports facilities, educational centres, and emergency services. The approval took place in an extraordinary council meeting held yesterday.
The funds come from the final settlement of the Municipal Participation in State Taxes (PIE) corresponding to 2024, the outcome of which was favourable for municipal finances. Unlike other occasions, this is not a forecast: the amount was already paid to the City Council on 31 July and is currently in the municipal treasury.
One of the largest allocations, €50,000, will be dedicated to the renovation of the Parque del Quiñón, which will include renovation work, removal of deteriorated elements, access improvements, and enhancement of various areas. In terms of infrastructure, €48,500 will be used to improve the road connection between calle Abogados de Atocha and the service road of the Municipal Sports Centre, involving demolition, land preparation, paving, and asphalting.
The improvement of the flowerbed on calle Isaac Peral will receive €47,000 to renew the landscaping, improve access, install a new irrigation system, and prepare the ground for grass and new plantings. Additionally, €17,500 has been allocated for furniture and equipment for the new Municipal Athletics Track.
The security and emergency chapter will receive €15,000 to strengthen the equipment of Civil Protection, aimed at emergency response and potential temporary accommodation for affected populations, and another €15,000 to acquire traffic signs and expedite their replacement on municipal roads. The renewal of benches, litter bins, and other urban furniture in parks and green areas will be allocated €18,000.
In the educational sector, €16,500 will be invested to improve the perimeter and access of CEIP Jorge Guillén, enhancing security and accessibility, and €11,500 for installing air conditioning in the Casita de Niños 'Los Picapiedra'. The Municipal Pool will receive €10,000 to renew showers and access stairs to the pools, while €6,892.44 is reserved for technical work and studies to plan future projects.
The Councillor for Finance has praised the operation as a management based on rigor and planning, as it involves income that has already been recognised and effectively collected.
We are taking advantage of a higher real income, recognised by the State Administration and already deposited in the municipal accounts, to turn it into concrete actions that improve our services, facilities, and public spaces,” she stated.The mayor, Rafael Martínez, emphasised that the budget modification transforms these higher revenues into investments linked to the daily lives of residents.
