The Local Government Board has approved the comprehensive redevelopment project for Pedro del Campo street, in the Chorrillo neighbourhood, with an investment exceeding 200,000 euros.
The Local Government Board of Alcalá de Henares has greenlit the project for the comprehensive renewal of Pedro del Campo street, in the Chorrillo neighbourhood, an initiative that is part of the 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods' plan. The planned investment exceeds 200,000 euros and will affect both the roadway and the side pavements, including intersections and pedestrian crossings.
The Councillor for Urban Works and Maintenance, Antonio Saldaña, explained that the works aim to “improve functionality, accessibility, safety, urban image, and sustainability of public space.” The current state of the road shows significant deterioration: pavements less than one metre wide in some sections, asphalt with numerous cracks, and parking spaces without a defined pattern.
The proposal includes widening the pavements at the narrowest points and installing tactile paving at crossings with pedestrian crossings, both directional and button types, to ensure accessibility for visually impaired individuals. The roadway will undergo milling, and where the deterioration is greater, preliminary repairs will be made to consolidate the base before laying the final surface.
Additionally, urban furniture will be removed to carry out the works and will be replaced afterwards, service covers and drains will be levelled, and as a final step, the roads and parking spaces will be painted, elevated crossings will be replaced, and vertical signs will be installed. The area of intervention is located near the Paseo de los Pinos.
Saldaña emphasised that “we continue to work to improve the neighbourhoods of Alcalá, as part of a strategy aimed at enhancing our public spaces.” With this intervention, the City Council aims to address the accumulated deterioration and improve road safety and the urban image of one of the entrances to the Chorrillo neighbourhood.
The works are part of a broader neighbourhood improvement plan that the council is developing in various parts of the city. The start date for the works has not yet been specified, and it will be announced once the contract is awarded.
