The Alcalá de Henares City Council will renew the surfacing of the most deteriorated section of the Camino de los Afligidos, with an investment of over 340,000 euros and a length of 675 meters.

The Alcalá de Henares City Council has approved the project to renew the surfacing on the Camino de los Afligidos, in the section between number 1 of the road and Ceuta Street. The project, which has a budget of over 340,000 euros, covers approximately 675 linear meters and an area of about 5,000 square meters.

The Councillor for Urban Planning, Cristina Alcañiz, explained that the project aims to “improve mobility and safety” and includes the repair of the damaged pavement, the renewal of the surface asphalt layer, the repainting of road markings, and the reconfiguration of tree pits. The north sidewalk between Ceuta and Melilla streets will also be paved, and new speed bumps will be installed.

This is the second intervention carried out on this road during the current legislature. In 2024, the council already invested over 250,000 euros, funded through the Regional Investment Plan of the Community of Madrid, in the reform of the section between Jadraque Street and the Camino de los Afligidos.

Those works included widening the street to improve the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, as well as replacing the asphalt with concrete cobblestones with an earthy finish, suitable for livestock routes.

The now approved works will complement the cobblestone paving already executed around number 1 of the road, aiming to complete the comprehensive improvement of one of the busiest access points in the area. The City Council has not yet specified the start date for the works, which will be carried out once the contract is formalised.
