Mayor Judith Piquet has supervised the completion of the works in the southern area of the Paseo de la Alameda, which included new asphalt, accessibility improvements, and a further ten parking spaces.
The mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, has checked the results of the improvement works in the southern area of the Paseo de la Alameda, an initiative that had a budget of €290,000 from the Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods plan.
Accompanied by councillor Cristina Alcañiz, Piquet explained that the aim was to renew the asphalt on the Paseo de la Alameda, Andrea Doria Street, and Gonzalo de Berceo Street, acting across the entire roadway. Sanitation work has also been carried out on sections that presented subsidence or damage to the road structure, as well as on the traffic lanes of Almería Street, which was in notably poor condition.
The mayor highlighted that “this was a highly demanded action by the local residents for a long time,” who had been conveying the need to improve the state of these streets, especially the asphalt, which was in a terrible condition. “With this project, we respond to a historic demand from the neighbourhood and continue to advance in our commitment to improve the neighbourhoods through investments that contribute to making the city more accessible, safe, and comfortable for everyone,” she added.
In addition to the main work, interventions have been made at the access points leading to the cul-de-sacs of Gonzalo de Berceo Street, renewing the pavement and tree pits on the southern sidewalk, which had considerable deterioration. The pedestrian crossing located at Santa Mónica has also been improved.
The works included the adaptation of all crossings to current accessibility regulations, with the aim of facilitating access for people with reduced mobility. Road markings and parking spaces have been repainted across the entire renovated surface, and on Almería Street, parking spaces for reduced mobility have been created in the number required by regulations, at the most suitable points.
Another effect of the work has been the increase in parking spaces: nearly ten more following the delimitation study carried out on Andrea Doria Street. Local residents can now enjoy newly renovated streets, with better pavement and greater road safety, as part of the municipal neighbourhood improvement plan.
