The San Martín de la Vega City Council has invested €75,976 in 66 new cameras, six of which have license plate readers, distributed across 21 points in the urban area.
The San Martín de la Vega City Council has taken a new step in its commitment to security with the installation of 60 surveillance cameras and another six with license plate readers, spread across 21 locations in the urban area. The municipal investment amounts to €75,976.48 and the new devices incorporate artificial intelligence.
The work began with the preparation of conduits and connections and has concluded with the installation and configuration of the network. The Councillor for Citizen Security, Sergio Neira, explained that the system is connected to the Unified Security Centre, operational since 2023, which has a videowall from which all points in the municipality, the Aimayr industrial estate, and the Vallequilas Urbanisation can be viewed live.
“Since 2020, when we launched the traffic surveillance camera network, we have observed that its utility is fundamental as a complementary tool to the work carried out by the Security Forces,” Neira pointed out. The councillor recalled that many residents have requested an expansion of this model, something that has been made possible “after the approval of this year’s municipal budgets.”
The new network not only allows live viewing but also downloading images that help clarify or prevent crimes, as detailed by the councillor. Furthermore, he announced that this investment will be complemented in the coming months with the arrival of a drone, a drug detection unit, and two electric motorcycles for the Local Police.
This measure is in addition to the recent incorporation of twelve new local police officers and the renewal of uniforms and equipment, with an investment of €97,934.98. Neira concluded that all this contributes to San Martín de la Vega becoming the second municipality with the lowest crime rate in the Community of Madrid, according to the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior.
With this expansion, residents will see increased surveillance in key areas of the urban area, focusing on prevention and response to any incidents. The new cameras are already operational and connected to the command centre.
