Eras de San Isidro street, which connects the Estación neighbourhood with the Centre, is once again open to traffic following an investment of over €90,000.
Eras de San Isidro street in Alcalá de Henares reopened to traffic this Thursday after the complete renovation of the road, a project framed within the Neighbourhood Improvement Plan that had a budget exceeding €90,000.
This road, which connects the Estación neighbourhood with the Historic Centre, showed evident deterioration, with narrow sidewalks, poor pavement conditions, and a roadway with structural deficiencies. The intervention aimed to prioritise pedestrians over vehicles, providing wider and safer pathways.
The Councillor for Urban Works and Maintenance, Antonio Saldaña, explained that “it is about putting people at the centre of the design of our streets and striving for a more liveable city.”
Among the actions taken, the complete renewal of the pavement of the roadway and sidewalks stands out, along with improvements to pedestrian accessibility, the reorganisation of road space with new parking areas and signage, and the adaptation of street furniture and drainage systems. Road safety has also been enhanced with new horizontal and vertical signage.
The design incorporates to ensure universal accessibility. Additionally, the roadway has been lowered at its junction with Vía Complutense and Navarro and Ledesma, whose slope could damage vehicles and is now adjusted in height.
This action is part of a municipal strategy to bring neighbourhoods closer to the Centre through more accessible roads, as was done on Avenida de Guadalajara and Talamanca street, or as is currently being done on Paseo del Val and Núñez de Guzmán. It also continues the renovation of Plaza de San Lucas, which connects to this street via a pedestrian crossing and a leisure area.
Works will continue in the coming months with improvements to the asphalt and sidewalks on Ribera, Murillo, and Manuel Azaña streets in the San Isidro neighbourhood.
