Alpedrete is organising a biodiversity route through its old granite quarries on Saturday, November 14. The activity has 30 places and registration opens on Monday, November 9.

On Saturday, November 14, from 10:00 to 13:00, a biodiversity route will take place through the Quarries of Alpedrete. The meeting point is the entrance to the Dehesa Boyal.

The route combines the granite landscape of the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama with oak groves, ash trees, scrubland, and rocky areas. Some of the old quarries are flooded and now serve as habitats for various species of fauna and flora.

The activity aims to explain the relationship between geology, history, human activity, and biodiversity. For centuries, the extraction of granite shaped the economy and landscape of the municipality, and the stone from its quarries was used in the Monastery of El Escorial, the Royal Palace, the Puerta de Alcalá, and the Bank of Spain.

Registration opens on Monday, November 9 at 8:00 and there are 30 places available, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The form is available at www.d2naturaleza.com.
