The renovation works on the La Navata bridge in Galapagar begin this Monday with an investment of €689,000 and a six-month timeline. There will be night closures and a lane regulated by traffic lights.
The City Council of Galapagar has started on Monday, September 7, the renovation and expansion works of the deck of the La Navata bridge, which crosses the Guadarrama River. The intervention, with a budget of €689,000, has a six-month execution period and is expected to conclude in spring 2027.
The works require a special traffic arrangement from the first day. During the night from Monday to Tuesday, there will be a total closure of the roadway between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM, with access only for buses. From 5:00 AM on Tuesday, one of the lanes will be permanently closed and traffic will be regulated with temporary traffic lights in both directions.
The council advises drivers to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes whenever possible, especially during peak hours, as the road will have only one lane and its capacity will be reduced.
The works will be carried out in two phases on the deck. In the first phase, on the right side (towards Galapagar-La Navata), curbs, sidewalks, and parapets will be demolished, the bridge's cantilever will be cut, underground services will be channelled, and new structural concrete will be placed. Once completed, traffic will move to that area and the intervention will be repeated on the left side.
Towards the end of the project, another night closure will take place for the laying of asphalt, installation of new streetlights and containment barriers, and painting of horizontal signage. Afterwards, the bridge will be fully reopened.
The La Navata bridge is classified as a Heritage Asset of Interest (BIP) and is listed in the Geographic Catalogue of Real Estate of the Historical Heritage of the Community of Madrid and in the Architectural Heritage Catalogue. The intervention respects the original structure and, by widening the deck, will allow for wider and safer sidewalks for pedestrians, with standardised railings and barriers.
