The Local Police of Galapagar presents its new Canine Unit, consisting of a Belgian Malinois for preventive and drug detection tasks, and a Springer Spaniel that joins as a therapeutic and educational support dog.
The Local Police of Galapagar has officially presented its new Canine Unit, a resource that incorporates two dogs with different profiles and functions to enhance the operational capacity of the force and strengthen its connection with the community.
The Belgian Malinois will undertake operational duties for preventive and deterrent patrolling, especially in the urban area, commercial zones, parks, recreational areas, and around educational centres. Its training in detecting narcotic substances will reinforce preventive controls against drug use and possession in public spaces.
The second member is a veteran Springer Spaniel, who after years of service as a drug detection dog begins a new phase in a secondary role as a therapeutic support dog, providing companionship and socio-educational support. Its work will take place in elderly residences, nursery schools, and educational centres, promoting interaction and emotional well-being, as well as interventions aimed at students with special educational needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), always in coordination with the responsible professionals.
The unit will work in coordination with the Drone Unit (UMA), the Tutor Agent, the Civil Guard, and social entities. This integration allows for the combination of aerial surveillance with ground intervention and expands prevention and awareness actions in educational centres.
The creation of the Canine Unit is part of a global security strategy that the Galapagar City Council has been developing, which includes the incorporation of 15 new agents in recent months and the launch of the Night Special Group BÚHO.
