The northern mountain municipality deployed 19 staff and coordinated three access points to manage the arrival of 1,470 visitors during the eclipse on December 12.
The municipality of Gargantilla del Lozoya has reviewed the organisational measures put in place for the eclipse on December 12, a day that brought together nearly 1,500 people in its area. According to data provided by the Town Hall, 490 vehicles were recorded entering, with an average occupancy of three people per car, resulting in a total of 1,470 visitors.
Access control was organised at three key points in the locality: the Las Hontanillas platform, the helipad, and El Cañuelo. There, 19 municipal employees worked on the ground to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the attendees, as reported by the Council.
The local government team highlights that the operation was carried out with "maximum efficiency", achieving a balance between public attendance and respect for the natural environment. The collaboration of the Civil Guard, Forest Agents, the Sierra Norte Planetarium, and the Town Hall of Gargantilla, as well as the association Pueblos con Vida, was key to the success of the operation.
The astronomical event, which attracted visitors from all over the Sierra Norte, became a new example of responsible tourism in the area. The municipality expresses gratitude for the civic attitude of the attendees and reminds that the organisation of such events "demonstrates that coordination and care for the environment go hand in hand."
For the locals, this review confirms that the municipality is prepared to host large gatherings without losing its natural essence. The Town Hall is already working on planning future astronomical events, aiming to maintain this management model.
