The Móstoles City Council has celebrated the first day of the second edition of September Alive, focused on suicide prevention. The awards for promoting emotional wellbeing have gone to the Municipal and National Police.
The theatre of the North-University Sociocultural Centre hosted this Wednesday the first day of awareness, prevention, and emotional wellbeing of the second edition of September Alive, a program organized by the Móstoles City Council to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, which is commemorated every September 10.
The mayor, Manuel Bautista, participated in the institutional event and in the presentation of the Móstoles Awards for the Promotion of Emotional Wellbeing, which this year were awarded to the Municipal Police and the National Police for their professional work in this area. Also present were the first deputy mayor and councillor for Security, Emergencies, and Environment, Gabriel Monteserín, and the councillor for Contracting, Seniors, and Social Welfare, Raquel Guerrero, along with other members of the municipal corporation.
The day included the reading of a manifesto and the performance of the monologue “Abrazolamp (Cornered)”.
Professionals and institutions must work together and transversally in Suicide Prevention, enhancing a support network, a proximity network that protects those in emotionally vulnerable situations,” explained Móstoles Mayor Manuel Bautista.
Talking matters. Listening matters. Because against silence and stigma, we must build a society where asking for help is never a source of shame. We must create safe environments and detect signs early,” he stated.
The program continues on September 25 with a conference for professionals from 9:30 to 14:30 titled “Prevention from social agents in the face of suicidal behaviour,” featuring a presentation by Álvaro Toledo, a general health psychologist.
September Alive, which this year carries the slogan “Listen, accompany, and care,” is organized by the Móstoles City Council through the Department of Contracting, Seniors, and Social Welfare, and is developed alongside the Childhood and Adolescence Plan (PLIA), in collaboration with socio-health and educational entities in the municipality. The initiative is part of the “Live” Plan of the Community of Madrid.
