The Town Hall of Nuevo Baztán has detected new thefts of cabling in the public lighting since September 9. The replacement work at four points in the municipality will cost nearly 8,000 euros.
The Town Hall of Nuevo Baztán has detected new acts of vandalism and theft of public lighting cabling in various parts of the municipality. Municipal services confirmed that the cabling had been cut directly in several manholes and junction boxes, which left numerous streetlights out of service.
The first reports of service outages in various lighting areas were noted on September 9. Following inspections, workers found forced manholes and cut cable ends inside, some of which could still be live. For this reason, in addition to replacing the cabling, it will be necessary to inspect the manholes and affected installations to ensure their safety and proper functioning.
The repairs will focus on four locations. On the road to Valverde de Alcalá, approximately 225 metres of cabling will be replaced. In the plaza de la Cebada, about 50 metres of cable will be replaced and the cut parts will be connected. On the road from Pozuelo del Rey, around 67 metres of cable will be replaced. Action will also be taken in the Municipal Park In Memory of the Victims of Terrorism, where repairs to the damaged installation are planned.
The cost of this work is estimated to be close to 8,000 euros, according to municipal calculations. The Town Hall has not specified the exact schedule for the execution of the works nor whether the thefts have been reported to the Civil Guard.
