The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council denies having rejected the public care home project for the elderly and asserts that the plot continues to be freely ceded to the Community of Madrid. Mayor Aída Castillejo has requested an urgent meeting with Councillor Ana Dávila to clarify the situation.
The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council has denied the information circulated in recent hours claiming that the City Council would have rejected the construction project for a care home for the elderly and would have refused to cede a plot for this purpose. According to municipal sources, the plot remains available to the Community of Madrid for the construction of a public care home and a day centre.
The land has been ceded to the regional government on three occasions. The first cession dates back to 2006. In 2017, it was the Community of Madrid that communicated its intention to return the plot, despite the City Council requesting that it reconsider the decision and kept the land reserved for this use. Following another regional renunciation, in 2023 the City Council again made the plot available to the regional government.
Since then, the situation has not changed: the land continues to be ceded for the construction of the care home and the City Council has no record of any renunciation or rejection of the project by the Community of Madrid.
In light of the information appearing in some media, the mayor of Rivas, Aída Castillejo, has requested an urgent meeting with the Councillor for Family, Youth and Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, to clarify the situation. In the letter sent to the Ministry, the City Council reminds that the Community has had a municipal plot ceded for this infrastructure for years.
The elderly people of Rivas have been demanding this care home for many years. The City Council has provided the plot and remains willing to collaborate. What we expect now is for the Community of Madrid to comply and for the care home to be built. We will not allow those who have been fighting for a public care home for years to be left without it,” the mayor stated.
The Councillor for the Elderly, Marisa Pérez, has insisted on “the need for our elderly people to have a public care home that guarantees them adequate care, as we have demanded in full on many occasions.”
The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council hopes that the meeting with the Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Affairs will take place in the coming days to unblock the situation and that the public care home and day centre can become a reality.
